Out Here

Athens will not be photographed. Closed, dense and inert, it resists all acts of recording. Against one of the hills of Athens a woman looks out her window. She observes the people living in the skyline, back rooms or basements. They are all familiar strangers, mute in their routines, living and looking indifferently. Isolated and recovering from something, waiting and lingering between inside and outside, she finds ways to look at the voids and fissures of the depression era city by filling in blanks of intersecting stories. Then, unwittingly, she finds someone different. A voice enters her story, as its lines double up.

Creative Statement

Our workshop explores public space in the Mediterranean Metropolis.  It also explores the networked city.  Places of negotiation, difficult diversity and coincidence, transforming into dense, seaside, disastrous, wondrous and hypermediated Crisis Landscapes. There, we make Public Installations, Digital Storytelling, Sustainable Commons and Extreme Comfort Residences.  We often look to archetypes -  the Agora, the Monument, the Garden.  We try to reach a mass audience through design. Our images and texts navigate this changing city.  Our architecture and interfaces are design-built to withstand it.  Not as forts, but as windmills.
